Magnetometers responds to disturbance of the local earth’s magnetic field. This is usually done by a ferrous objects. So by recording the disturbances we make a hit list of metal objects on the sea floor. In combination with Side Scan Sonar, parts of the hit list that lie on the sea floor can be classified.
